Use 500 KB when the form is generous
ExactKB’s wedge is still the harsh 20 / 50 / 100 KB world. This page exists because the same engine should not pretend every portal is UPSC. A 500 KB target usually finishes in one or two encode passes at high quality, and only resizes if you started from a huge print scan.
Half a megabyte is a polite size for a learning-management upload, a helpdesk ticket, or an HR profile that did not print a smaller number. It is the wrong page for PAN photos and exam signatures. If you landed here from a search and the notice says 100 KB, open compress to 100 KB instead.

A screenshot of a receipt or an error dialog is full of hard edges. JPEG at high quality still ringing-artifacts around text. If the destination allows PNG and 500 KB, switch the output menu to PNG and let ExactKB shrink dimensions until it fits. If the destination insists on JPG, crop to the dialog, then compress — do not encode a full 4K desktop capture.
Photographs at 500 KB rarely need a dimension cap. Leave “Keep size” unless the LMS also enforces a max width. You will usually see quality in the 80–95% band on the result card.
Still not a document scanner
ExactKB will not deskew a page, remove a thumb, or OCR a marksheet. It will make the file smaller. If you need a PDF under a megabyte, that is outside this product. We mention that so a content reviewer — and you — do not treat this URL as an empty clone of the 100 KB page.

Why offer 500 KB if forms want 100?
Not every upload is a government photo field. Coursework portals, ticket sites, and some HR tools allow half a megabyte. Hitting 500 KB still beats mailing a 7 MB HEIC.
Should I use WebP at 500 KB?
Only if the destination accepts WebP. Forms almost never do. Keep JPG unless you are publishing to the web.
