About ExactKB

ExactKB is a free website that compresses JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC photos to an exact kilobyte target in your browser. It is published by the independent ExactKB publisher. It is not a government portal, not an exam board, and not a visa studio.

Set your public name with the PUBLIC_OPERATOR_NAME environment variable when you attach a real identity for advertising and legal notices. Until then, treat the contact mailbox as the operator of record.

Why ExactKB exists

People do not search “compress image to 100kb” because they want a design suite. They search it because a form just rejected a 2.4 MB iPhone photo. Generic resizers change pixels. Cloud compressors make files “smaller” and still leave you 12 KB over the cap — after uploading an ID portrait to someone else’s server.

ExactKB exists to close that gap: pick a number (20, 50, 100, 200 KB, or custom), keep the work on-device, and download a file the validator can accept on size. Form presets (UPSC, PAN, SSC, passport, DS-160, signature) are conveniences based on commonly published ranges. They are not official specifications.

What we operate — and what we do not

• We operate this static site and the in-browser encoder documented in how exact KB compression works.
• We do not store your photos. There is no account database and no image API.
• We do not submit applications, review portraits, or certify that a photo meets ICAO or exam composition rules.
• We do not sell a batch API in this version and we do not watermark downloads.
• We may display standard advertisements below the tool and in article space after a publisher account is approved. Ads are not the download button.

Mentions of UPSC, PAN, SSC, IBPS, Passport Seva, DS-160, TinyPNG, Squoosh, or other products are descriptive. ExactKB is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by those organizations. Comparisons describe product behavior we have observed (upload vs client-side, quality slider vs target size). They are not legal claims about those companies.

How the site is funded

The tool is free. Hosting is a static Cloudflare Pages deploy. If advertising is enabled later, it will be labeled “Advertisement” and placed under the compressor or inside long-form guides — never styled as “Download” or a calculator key. We do not sell your photos; we never receive them. We do not promise any advertising income to anyone.

How to verify we mean “in-browser”

Load any tool page once, then enable airplane mode and compress a photo you do not mind losing if something fails. The encode still completes because HEIC WASM, JSZip, and the canvas loop are already on the device. First load still requests HTML, CSS, and JS from the host — that is a website, not a photo upload. Closing the tab drops object URLs. There is no “download again from our servers” link because we never stored the file.
